A preview of Monday's MLK Day showcases
by Transition Hoops Report
This Monday, the celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. will be in full affect in the Seattle, Washington area with showcase games all over. As an MLK Basketball Preview, here is a list of games and some of the great match ups that we anticipate. Of course, we will be Tweeting, @HSHoopsReport, through out the day and will have a full write up following the games.
King Showcase at the ShoWare Center
10:30 AM Auburn Mountainview vs. King's
3:30 PM Tahoma vs. Mark Morris
5:00 PM Kentwood vs. Enumclaw
7:00 PM Kentridge vs. Sumner
8:30 PM Kentlake vs. Lakes
The first game of the day, Auburn Mountainview features two juniors to pay attention to in Ryan Lacey and Tristan Miguel. Together they combine for about 34 points per game. King's features one of the sophomores in the entire northwest, Corey Kispert.
Watch the 5:00 game for a chance to see Malik Sanchez and Rayvaughn Bolton from Kentwood take on Zac Webb from Enumclaw. The Kentwood duo provide a nice scoring combo while Webb is the scoring punch for Enumclaw at 17.5 ppg.
King Holiday Hoopfest at Bellevue College
12:00 PM Puyallup vs. Mercer Island
4:00 PM Stanwoor vs. Bishop Blanchet
5:45 PM Federal Way vs. Belleuve
7:30 PM Chief Sealth vs. Renton
The 5:45 match up looks to be the most promising. Federal Way, despite the loss of Malik Montoya, has had a very good season to this point. Vionte Daniels and Jalen McDaniels have carried the load. Bellevue also has a lot of talent, with Kyle Foreman (Boston University) and Gunther Klimes (Army) along with big man Michael Henn.
Eastside Catholic Hoops Showcase
1:00 PM Jefferson vs. Mountlake Terrace
2:30 PM Ballard vs. Jackson
4:00 PM Eastside Catholic vs. Shorecrest
5:45 PM Glacier Peak vs. Wilson
7:30 PM Skyline vs. West Seattle
Eastside Catholic has three confirmed (and signed) college players on their roster while Shorecrest's Drew Magaoay has been making a name for himself as a scorer.
Wilson's David Jenkins has been receiving a lot of attention lately as a few more offers have come in.
Robert Biegaj from Skyline has started to hit his stride in the last couple of games. Their match up with West Seattle will also showcase an under the radar sophomore, Nate Pryor, who has averaged 21.0 ppg through 10 games.
Garfield High School
1:00 O'Dea vs. Davis (Yakima)
5:00 Franklin vs. Cleveland
7:00 Rainier Beach vs. Garfield
The obvious top choice of games here is 3A state title defenders Rainier Beach against 4A state title defenders Garfield. Both teams are loaded and this is a potential 3A state title game preview since Garfield moved down a classification. Beach will be playing after a trip to Washington DC for an MLK event there on Saturday.
But don't sleep on O'Dea vs Davis. O'Dea's Quin Barnard will probably spend a little time matched up against either Davis's Nihkil Lizotte or Max Jones.
Also, keep an eye on Cleveland and Jewels Sanders, who has big scoring potential.
