Middle School Showcase brings tough talent

by Transition Hoops Report

This past Friday and Saturday, the Middle School Showcase featured talented 5th-8th graders from around the northwest. Overall the group was impressive. Below, we feature a few of the players that had standout performances over the weekend (listed alphabetically).

Tru Allen (5'3 PG 2020) – can really beat guys off the bounce. He is super quick going right or left and is always on balance. Allen’s biggest asset is his feel for the game and ability to set up his teammates for easy looks. Even though he is a lefty he can finish with either hand in the paint. Defensively, Allen is really quick laterally and is physical. His older brother, Tre’von, is in our top 10 for the class of 2016 and has an offer from the University of Idaho.

Caleb Fong (4'8 PG 2020) – has a nice skill set and leadership qualities. Fong can knock down perimeter jumpshots and handle the ball. As he grows, so will his game.

Tanner Hayhurst (5'7 SF 2020) – is an excellent shooter with range to the 3 point line. He has nice footwork on his jumpshot and really good looking release. Hayhurst is a shooting specialist with the genetics to be a big wing.

Hayden Hicks (5'11 SF 2019) – is a match up nightmare because he is so athletic, strong, and aggressive on both ends. He can knock down perimeter jumpshots or get to the rim and finish. His size makes him a versatile defender. Hick’s ability to rebound and score in transition make him a big time difference maker.

Peyton Phillips (6'2 PF 2019) – was a nice interior player with good length and athleticism. He finished a couple nice jump hooks with both hands. Phillips had some nice battles for interior positioning and rebounds.

Jake Poulton (5'7 PG 2019) – is long and a terrific athlete. He plays really low to the ground and at a good pace. Poulton is really good off the bounce and can get to the rim and finish with either hand through contact. Also has range to the 3 point line and a solid mid range pull up jumper. His size makes him a versatile defender as well.

Jaron Rillie (5'0 PG 2019) – has a tight handle and can beat defenders off the dribble. He can shoot it from beyond the 3 point line and also has a nice pull up jumper. The left handed Rillie has a really high ceiling and an excellent feel for the game. His father is former Gonzaga star John Rillie.

Donaven Santana (5'7 PF 2019) – is a physical player that really knows how to play. He has a great nose for the ball which makes him an elite rebounder. Santana can knock down perimeter jumpshots and is a crafty finisher in the paint.

Payton Sobotta (5'10 SF 2019) – long wing with a high basketball IQ. He really knows the game and can make plays 15 feet and in. The Sobotta family has produced a lot of great players over the years and Payton will only get better over time.

Myles Youngblood (5'6 PG 2019) – is a really good athlete that can handle the ball. He has a nice crossover that allows him to get separation to get to the basket or set up teammates. Youngblood has a nice mid range game and can really finish in transition.
