by Transition Hoops Report

Here are some news and notes through Tuesday, January 14, 2014. If we missed anything be sure to add them to the comments area below.

Evanston’s Alek Johnson had another big game this season with 31 points, 13 rebounds, and 8 assists beating Laramie.

Kalei Smith has scored in double figures and led Powell in all 10 of their games this season.

In a win against Newcastle, Kendrick Jackson scored 16 points, grabbed 16 rebounds, and had 6 assists.

Utah

Bonneville’s Jace Packard had a double double (15 points and 13 rebounds) defeating Mountain Crest.

Christian Musoko grabbed 21 rebounds for Layton Christian in a win over Ben Lomond.

Last week Parker Lewis averaged 28 points for Bear River.

Josh Thalman led Syracuse over Layton with 15 points and 14 rebounds.

Oregon

Payton Pritchard had a big week for West Linn.  They beat Westview thanks to 30 points from Pritchard and 20 from Anthony Mathis.  Then he dropped 27 in a win over Grant (Grant was led by Dylan Leonard’s 30 points).

Lakeridge’s Reggie Oliver scored 37 points defeating David Douglas.

Tualatin’s Jacob Bennett scored 27 points beating McMinnville who was led by Gage Gubrud’s 25 points.

Malik Leaks went for 32 for North Salem in a loss to Sherwood.  Sherwood’s Jordan Kurahara finished with 18 points.

Montana

Billings’ West Jared Samuelson went for 30 points and 15 rebounds defeating Bozeman.

Troy Scott scored 35 points for Dillon in a battle with rival Stevensville.  Stevensville’s Jared Schultz scored 27.

Frenchtown had two big wins this week.  Bridger Truett dropped 32 points beating Libby.  John Chapman scored 33 points and dished out 9 assists and Truett added 26 in a win over Missoula Loyola.

Bigfork stayed undefeated beating Columbia Falls thanks to 28 points and 10 rebounds by Christian Evans.

Idaho

Salmon River's Leighton Vander Esch had another 30 point outburst. This time it was against Cascade where he scored 33 and grabbed 9 boards.

We had to post this. Pretty athletic play on the 3-point shot...even if it went in to the wrong basket.

Washington

Big scoring outbursts are bitter sweet in a loss. The 53 scored by Isiah Brown in a loss to O'Dea is still impressive. But it should not completely overshadow the 19 points and 15 points by O'Dea's Jacob Lampkin.

In an overtime win against Timberlake (ID), Jeron Konkright scored 39 points. The senior certainly enjoys playing Idaho teams. In December he scored 43 points against Idaho's Priest River.

The scoring continued on Tuesday. In the Rainier Beach vs. West Seattle game there were three 30 point explosions. DeAndre Love scored 31 for WS but the Shaqquon Aaron (32 points) / Dejounte Murray (30 points) combo was too much.

David Crisp also made headlines for Rainier Beach when he committed to the University of Washington.

Rio Paul's scoring from Auburn has been up and down this season but against Auburn Riverside it was up, scoring 32 in the win. Derek Brown scored 27 for Riverside in that game. Then on Tuesday, Auburn's JJ Ruffin went for 30 and Marquise Prader scored 28 in a win over Mount Rainier.

Not to pick on Mount Rainier, but they have had some trouble keeping opposing players under 30 this season. Malik Sanchez put up 31 for Kentwood to help beat Mount Rainier.

Coleman Wooten was able to score 30 against Sanchez's Kentwood on Tuesday but Kentwood still came away with the win.

Robert Ambartsumyan from Sammamish scored 31 in a win against Mount Si.

Chad Browneagle had a monster game with 36 points and 16 rebounds in a Cusick win.
