Eagle (ID) Gets The Win Against Visiting Vallivue (ID)
by Transition Hoops Report
Eagle (ID) ended up with an important conference win over Vallivue (ID). Eagle was led by Spencer Smith (6'1 PG 2015) and Riley Leavitt (6'3 PG 2015), who did the scoring, and Zac Furgerson (6'4 PF 2014) on the boards. Bryce Schroeder (6'0 SG 2015) and Brandon Navarro (5'9 PG 2014) helped keep Vallivue within arms reach until the last few minutes of the game.
Eagle jumped out to an early lead thanks to multiple 3 point baskets from Riley Leavitt. When he was patient he found open shots in Vallivue’s zone and set up teammates for easy looks.
Spencer Smith also knocked down multiple shots from beyond the arc for Eagle. He made a lot of plays off the dribble with a strong first step to the rim and the ability to finish through contact.
It is also worth mentioning the performances of Eagle's Furgerson and Jacob Talbot (6'4 SF 2014). Furgerson came up huge on the glass on both ends. He finished with double digit rebounds thanks to great positioning and pursuing the ball. Talbot had flashes of greatness with some very nice takes to the basket, especially late. When he is aggressive to the rim he is tough to stop.
Vallivue battled all the way to the end of the game. But it was turnovers late that caused their loss. They were led by Schroeder, who put extreme pressure on the defense. He was really aggressive from start to finish which gets him to the line often, though that aggressiveness can also lead to a lot of turnovers and forced shots. Schroeder did show the ability to hit the 3, the floater off the dribble and he loves the spin move into the lane for layups.
Navarro also had a nice game for Vallivue. He was really quick to the basket and moving laterally to defend perimeter players. He was also stopping and starting on a dime. Navarro works hard to get open and when he gets the ball he can hit the 3 or the mid range pull up jumper.
